I’ve been lacking in crafting motivation, and I wanted to get my crochet mojo (cro-mojo?) back. Also, the world is crumbling (and rising up!) all around me, and I have been feeling pretty overwhelmed. I’m working on how my family and I can be better allies and anti-racist (instead of just not racist).
It sounds frivolous to say this, but I do still want to keep making pretty things as well. I’m working on how I can make pretty things and make a difference. More on that later. In the meantime, though, I wanted to make something cheery.
So, I went through all of my crochet pattern books and picked out a completely frivolous project that looked cheery and fun.
And what could possibly be cheerier and more fun than a giant crocheted cupcake? This is Gretel’s Cupcake Purse from Crochet Ever After by Brenda K.B. Anderson.
And when I say giant, I mean giant.
Kiddo pretending to eat giant cupcake for scale!
I used a size 3.5mm hook and worsted weight acrylic yarn. It was a pretty quick project, and I love how it turned out.
If I can get it away from the kids, I’m planning on using this as a sewing basket with the top of the cupcake acting as a pin cushion.
I feel like I got my cro-mojo back with this project and am looking forward to making some other projects out of Crochet Ever After.
