When my little guys turned 3, they each had an idea for the theme of their birthday party. One boy wanted a theme of dump trucks, while the other wanted a theme of fire trucks. So, we settled on a transportation theme, and I focused as much as possible on those two types of trucks!
I had a great time DIYing this theme and am excited to share it with you today.
First, I ordered some candy molds from Amazon. I ordered these fire trucks, firefighter helmets, dump trucks, and construction hats molds. I also ordered a selection of Wilton Candy Melts like these. (I liked the taste of the chocolate candies best, but my kids loved the vanilla flavored ones as well.)
I melted the candies and used a squeeze bottle to pour the melted candies into the molds. Then I placed them in the refrigerator to cool off and firm up.
The candies made great simple cupcake toppers – and the boys (and their friends) loved eating them! I just frosted the cupcakes, added some colored sprinkles and put the candies right on top.
Next, I made some Rice Krispie treats and added M&Ms in red, yellow and green to make stop lights.
For party favors, I covered my living room table in butcher paper, put out some markers and some wooden cars. The kids got to entertain themselves drawing all over the table and the cars, and then they got to take the cars home at the end of the party.
And finally, for an activity, we made a simple corn hole game that looked like a traffic light.
I took a piece of thin ply wood, cut three holes in it, then outlined those holes with some red, yellow and green felt. I attached the board on one end to a 2×4 so it would stand up at an angle. The kids had a great time tossing bean bags into the holes.
We added in a firetruck piñata, like this one available at Michael’s, and there was plenty of activities for the kids.
If you’ve got any firetruck, dump truck, or transportation loving kiddos in your life, they may like these ideas. If you try any of them out, I’d love to hear about it! Leave a comment below or tag me in your instagram photos – @thecajuncreates.
